Ryan Harrow continues the long line of great point guards to play for John Calipari.

We know this much: John Calipari has a type.

He likes ‘em fast. He likes ‘em athletic. He likes ‘em exciting.

Ryan Harrow encompasses all of those traits. The former N.C. State guard decided Kentucky was where he was going to finish out his college career.

Harrow, who also considered Georgia, Louisville and Texas, joins the fraternity of Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, John Wall, Brandon Knight and Marquis Teague as jet quick and athletic point guards that have played under Calipari’s watch.

Harrow, a five-star point guard coming out of high school, fits the personnel that is already in place in Lexington. Calipari’s style allows for freedom – mistakes included – at the position. Harrow should have no problem following suit to the lineage of point guards that have gone before him.

Calipari’s run at the position is a historic one. He is on an amazing run of point guards. Can you name a group of point guards better than the one Calipari is working on right now?

Steve Kerr, Damon Stoudamire, Mike Bibby, Jason Terry, Miles Simon, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Gardner, Jerryd Bayless and NIc Wise is a good one at Arizona, the school otherwise known as Point Guard U. That crew pales in comparison.

Just how big is Harrow’s commitment? Try this on for size: there isn’t a point guard ranked in the top 35 of the class of 2012 rankings from Scout.com that is uncommitted. There are zero five-star point guards in the class nationally. Point guards, instant impact point guards, just don’t exist in the 2012 class.

Harrow’s addition allows Kentucky to be ahead of the game, once again, at the position.

He has a sick handle. Needs to work on his shot. I will take him. Now need to get Rodney Purvis

Sorry but Calipari doesn’t ‘develop’ great PG’s. He’s just a middle man that recruits them, markets them and promptly promotes them to the NBA. Gotta give him credit though, he does what he does very well.
