Could Anthony Bennett make a climb to the top of the rankings after a great July?

After losing their opening game on Tuesday, CIA Bounce (Canada) has literally bounced back with two straight wins.  One possible reason for the slow start is the youth and inexperience of the Canadians.

One way to fix that is to have one of the best players in the country lead by example.  That’s exactly what Class of 2012 forward Anthony Bennett is doing right now.

“Everybody was kind of nervous yesterday,” said Bennett about his team’s opening struggles.

“We haven’t played in an environment like this so they are just getting into it.  I have to pick them up but today everybody’s seemed like they are focused.  I’ve been going to high class tournaments for the whole season with Findlay so it’s just another tournament for me.”

In CIA Bounce’s second game, a narrow 55-53 victory over All Iowa Attack, Bennett lead the way with 18 points on 7-8 shooting, and 9 rebounds.  The versatile forward could do no offensively as he was able to score both down low and from downtown.

He continued his efficient work from the field on Wednesday morning by going perfect from the field (5-5) in limited minutes of an 80-53 blowout win over Mean Streets (IL).

The rising senior is quickly moving up on most services recruiting rankings.  It’s a fact that’s not lost on Bennett.

“I mean I’m just going to keep working and try and get to that number one spot,” said Bennett when referring to the 2012 recruiting rankings.

When asked about what it would take for him to achieve his goal, Bennett had a really quick answer.

“I need to keep working and develop my ball handling,” said Bennett.

“I also need to develop a consistent jump shot.  That is what I have to do and what I’m trying to do.”

Being at, or near, the top of the rankings usually means that a player will have his choice of schools to choose from when it’s time to sign that National Letter of Intent.  Bennett already has a huge list, but he does have a plan on when he wants to cut it, and when he wants to sign.

“Right now my list is Florida, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, West Virginia, Florida State, Xavier, Oregon, Washington, UNLV, Oklahoma, NC State, Kentucky, and Arizona,” said Bennett.

“I will probably sign next Spring and cut down to a top 10 at the beginning of high school season.  If it’s a good school, I’ll go to it.”
