N. AUGUSTA, S.C. – When BYU lost Jimmer Fredette to the NBA Draft last month conventional wisdom said that it would take years to replace the All-American in Provo.

Well it’s possible that help may be on the way sooner rather than later.

Jabari Parker, an admitted follower of the Mormon faith who also just happens to be one of the top players in the Class of 2013, is giving serious consideration to becoming a Cougar.

“It’s pretty serious,” Parker said when talking about his relationship with BYU.

“They keep on recruiting me and I’m showing interest in them too.  I don’t have any favorites, but they are in there.”

As is the case with every 5-star player, Parker has plenty of potential destinations at the next level and is quite busy dealing with all of those suitors in the month of July.  From the sound of things, the Chicago native is taking things in stride and moving at his own pace.

“It’s going well,” Parker said in reference to his recruitment process.

“I’m going to take my time.  I’m going to wait it out, wait till my senior year.  I really don’t have any favorites but the top schools recruiting me are Duke, Michigan State, Illinois, Washington, and Kansas.

Parker led the Mac Irvin Fire into the quarterfinals of the 2011 Nike Peach Jam with a 4-1 record.  He finished pool play as the tournament’s fourth leading scorer after dropping 18.8 points per contest.  Even more impressive was the chatter among on-lookers that Parker was one of the tournament’s best players, regardless of class.

While making the elite eight at the Peach Jam is quite an accomplishment, Parker was hoping for more and still wants to improve.

“I played well, made some shots, and got my teammates open looks but there are some things I can work on,” Parker said.

“I’m not really consistent.  I may score a lot of points the first game and then come up short the next.”
