Danrad “Chicken” Knowles plays for one of the best AAU programs in the country, Texas PRO, which also boasts Baylor bound center Isaiah Austin and highly recruited forward Danuel House.

People have known about Austin for some time now, but House and Knowles have both seen their stocks rise this spring and into the summer. Now that the live period is almost over, Knowles is using this last tournament to show coaches what he can really do.

“I’m more of a finesse player,” Knowles admits. “I can face up and shoot it.”

At 6-foot-10, Knowles is a talented foward that can put it on the floor and get to the rim as well as shoot it from deep, making him a perfect compliment to Austin. He’ll make for a similarly talented player at the next level.

Right now Knowles is considering Baylor, Mizzou, Houston, and Texas. There are a couple of others as well, he says. There’s really no favorite at this point

“I really like them all.” Knowles said.

Coach Scott Drew of Baylor watched Knowles on Friday. He noticed, too. Being a teammate of a Baylor commit, Knowles knows what the Bears have to offer.

“I’m close to coach Drew and the staff at Houston as well,” Knowles said.

Knowles is looking for a place where he can develop as both a person and a player, so academics are also a factor for him as well.

When I asked him where he got his unique nickname he just smiled. “I got it when I was in 6th grade in Puerto Rico playing basketball. I was fast and skinny, kind of like a chicken.”
