Number 99 – Augustine Rubit, C, Soph., South Alabama

At 6-foot-6, 220-pounds, fewer players get more out of their frame than Rubit. As a freshman, the Houston native played his way onto the national map by being the nation’s leading rebounder as a freshman.

Try this on for size: Rubit had 19 games of double-digit rebounds. He had five games with at least 15 rebounds. Rubit ripped down 13 at Alabama. He pulled down 14 at Louisville.

But here’s the thing with Rubit: he’s not very big and he doesn’t posses great athleticism. He’s a position rebounder that controls his space similar to Kevin Love does. Rubit said he’s been working on improving his body to add more athleticism to his game.

“I’m focusing more on conditioning and getting stronger,” said Rubit. “I’m doing more lifting, lots of squats, and putting up more shots. I work until I’m really tired, then keep pushing myself and doing more.”

Add Rubit and South Alabama to your watch list for this season. He’ll make it worth your while.

2010-2011 Stats: 13.1 ppg, 11 rpg, 2.4 TO, 1.1 bpg, 55.9% FG
