Woodberry to follow AAU teammates?

One of the fastest rising players in the class of 2102 is Adam Woodbury. The Iowan native had one of the most impressive spring/summers in recent memory.

At the NBPA top 100 camp Woodbury took home the MVP award, cementing himself as one of the top centers in the country. At 7-foot-1 and a college ready body that includes massive but soft hands Woodbury is a traditional center that can dominate on the block when given the opportunity.

Woodbury ran with All Iowa Attack on the AAU circuit, a team that boasts three other high major players in Marcus Paige, Mike Gesell and Kale Abrahamson. Paige has been committed to UNC for a few months now. Gesell popped for Fran McCaffery and Iowa on Monday. Abrahamson committed to Northwestern on Tuesday.

This is where Woodberry’s recruitment figures to get interesting. North Carolina has been showing serious interest in him this summer. Naturally, McCaffery made Gesell, Woodbury and Abrahamson his main priority since setting foot in Iowa City. Now Woodberry has three teammates trying to get them to join their respective schools.

Adam says he hasn’t ruled anyone out but “Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Stanford are the main recruiters. I’ve heard a little bit from UNC, Duke, Florida and Kansas as well.”

Still Iowa might be the team to beat as McCaffery has missed just two games of All Iowa Attack’s since he took the job.

“I mean it’s definitely an honor to have him at all of my games. I know he’s looking at other guys as well, he’s a focal point in the gym and it’s just an honor,” Woodbury said.

When asked if he would like to play with them at the next level Adam responded “If things would work out right I’d love to play with those guys. I’ve played with Mike for four years and Kale for three and those are two great kids. We have chemistry so we could come in and get it going right away.”

Some things Woodberry is looking for in a program are trust in the coaching staff and somewhere where he can get a good education. He plans on making his decision before the high school season begins so expect a decision during the early signing period. It will be interesting to see if Iowa’s hard work pays off and he joins Gesell at Iowa, Abrahamson at Northwestern, or if Paige can convince the talented big man to join him in Chapel Hill.
