Number 71 – Drew Gordon, PF, Sr., New Mexico

The Mountain West has been in the forefront of college basketball over the last couple of years thanks to the play of The Jimmer, San Diego State and UNLV. New Mexico has been collecting talent, too, and should be a team to watch out of the conference this season.

Having a guy like Drew Gordon anchor the middle helps the cause.

Steve Alford will certainly lean on the senior leadership of the UCLA transfer this season. He has emerged into one of the premiere rebounders in the nation and one of the most intimidating players in the West.

Gordon nearly doubled his rebounding efficiency in one season, going from 5.3 a game to 10.5. He did, of course, only play in a half dozen games for the Bruins when he pulled down 5.3 rebounds a game. Nevertheless, Gordon has constantly improved and could have the Lobos dancing this season.

2010-2011 STATS: 13 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 2.3 TO, 52.7% FG
