Number 69 – Aaron Craft, PG, Soph., Ohio State

Whatever you do, don’t look at the numbers when talking about Aaron Craft. They will deceive you because they don’t tell the story of the defensive dynamo.

The numbers never really tell the story for guys like Craft.

Craft is a facilitator. He’s a distributor. He’s a floor leader. He’s exactly what Ohio State needs at the point guard position. With a new look team suiting up in Columbus, this season is the perfect time to establish an identity. Craft has the chance to set the tone in the backcourt.

The Big Ten is known for shut-down guards and Craft instantly earned the respect of coaches in the league with his tough-as-nails attitude and wherewithal. His defense, at times, overshadows his ability to pass the ball and fed the post and find the shooters. Don’t be fooled, Craft is a fine passer.

His scoring and shooting will be under the microscope in year two because his role has been outside of the realm of points. Craft has command of this team despite being a sophomore. In fact, you could argue that Craft has a better hold of his team than any point guard in the Thad Matta era at Ohio State.

2010-2011 STATS: 6.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.8 apg, 2.1 TO, 37.% 3 pt
