Number 54 – Trey Zeigler, SF, Soph., Central Michigan

When we speak of the nation’s top sophomores, we speak of guys with the last name of Jones and Sullinger and Barnes and so on.

We don’t speak of Zeigler but we should.

The coach’s son was CMU’s leading scorer and second leading rebounder as a freshman. He was the go-to guy when it mattered. After all, he set a CMU single-season freshman scoring record with 506 points.

None of this should come as a big surprise. Zeigler is a big-time player that went to a smaller school despite offers from his pick of the litter. Playing for pops mattered more.

Zeigler could have put up similar numbers anywhere. The only numbers he’ll have to improve in on a bigger scale this year is wins. CMU needs ‘em. Zeigler should help the program get them.

2010-2011 STATS: 16.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 3.3 TO, 1.4 spg, 39.5% FG, 32.9% 3
