Number 49 – Marquis Teague, PG, Fr., Kentucky

The college basketball world, including the NHR, has talked ad nauseum about the quality of player that is a freshman point guard under John Calipari.

John Wall, Brandon Knight, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose have all been one and doners at Kentucky and Memphis.

Now it is time for Teague but for whatever reason, he isn’t mentioned in the same breath as Wall, Knight, Evans and Rose despite being a consensus top 10 player in the nation coming out of high school.

Why is that? Teague has the same kind of combination of speed meets athleticism. He too could be a one and done player like the other point guards before him. Teague will have a team full of pros at his disposal this season as the Wildcats sit near the top of most top 25 polls to start the season.

You could argue that Teague, not Anthony Davis or Austin Rivers or Andre Drummond, has the most pressure on his shoulders of any freshman in the country.

Bold? Maybe. But with the talent around him, Teague should step right into the roll nicely. A 12 point, four assist, four rebound year is realistic for him. And for Kentucky, that could be just enough to play for a National Championship.
