They said it: Part 2 of SEC Media Day

The media poured into the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Alabama for Media Day on Thursday and the second half of the day provided a quick look into the minds of the coaches in the SEC.

“I’ve been pleased with the freshmen. I think they’ve done a great job of being willing learners. That’s probably the biggest thing. I think they’ve been extremely humble and coachable. I think they’ve really allowed themselves to be led by our older guys. That certainly helps their learning curve for them, so they understand what college basketball is all about.” – Alabama’s Anthony Grant, on the progress of his impressive recruiting class.

“I’ve never had a team like this. I’m not sure Ole Miss has either. Defensively it allows you to do a lot of things. You can be awfully big in the zone. You can play like Crum in the ‘80’s. You can switch everything that makes it hard to play conventional offense.” – Ole Miss’s Andy Kennedy on his team’s size. There are only two players on his roster that stand under 6-foot-4.

“I’m not sure what my style is; you will have to ask somebody about that. I just like to have fun coaching our guys, competing at a high level and playing hard.” – Tennessee’s Cuonzo Martin didn’t show his cards about what to expect from the Vols.

“I think right now there is a buzz. There is hope again. I think people have the opportunity to see in the last nine years, I came from here to UAB – basketball was pretty good while I was [there]. And of course going to Missouri – now it’s a top 15 program. Now let’s go and see if we can create that same type of atmosphere at Arkansas.” – New Razorback coach Mike Anderson with the rally cry.

“We can become very explosive scoring. There is no question about that. The thing that they have done a great job leading up to this point is that I have been amazed with their unselfishness right now in playing and in practice. Now, when the lights come on, that can be a little bit of an intimidating experience. I’m hopeful that its not.” – Florida’s Billy Donovan basically saying ‘I hope we don’t turn into shot jackers when everyone is watch.’

“One of the things that is interesting about it is I think the change in distance has effected it some. It has separated some guys that were pretenders that could occasionally throw one in to guys that can actually make it.” – South Carolina’s Darrin Horn on moving the three-point line back.
