Number 36 – Jared Cunningham, SG, Jr., Oregon State

The National Hoops Report is a big fan of the flying Beaver from NorCal, aka Flight Time.

He was a national favorite last year with his amazing put back dunk against Arizona (the best #dunkage of the season if you ask the NHR) and he’s also known for being a defensive dynamo. In fact, he’s one of the top five defenders in America. That’s a fact.

Craig Robinson has played a slowed down style of ball during his time at Oregon State but if he is true to his word from Pac-12 Media Day, the Beavers may open it up this season. The 1-3-1 zone is a Robinson staple, and it isn’t going away, but Cunningham may be able to shine in a different look.

“We’ll play more man-to-man this year,” Robinson admitted. “We have in the past I’ve always talked about playing it, we’ve played it at times in the past. But we haven’t had the athletes, the athletic ability, and the depth to play man-to-man. You’ve got to have a little bit of depth to do that. But we would never, ever stop playing the 1-3-1.”

Cunningham has to be happy. Perhaps the change of defense will allow for more up-and-down offense. That’s where Cunningham shines.

And we, the college basketball world, need Cunningham, excuse me, Flight Time, to shine.

2010-2011 STATS: 14.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.1 apg, 2.8 spg, 2.5 TO, 43.7% FG, 36% 3PT
