Number 34 – Maalik Wayns, PG, Jr., Villanova

Is anyone else surprised that Villanova isn’t being talked about as a top 25 team? Yes, they lost Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes – a combined 31 points a game from the backcourt. But remember when Scottie Reynolds, an All-American, graduated? Nova recovered nicely with Fisher.

Nova should play at a high-level because of Wayns. He’s experienced, battle-tested and has gone through the Wildcat point guard apprentice program under Reynolds and Fisher. When you look at guards that get to the rim, Wayns is one of the elite in the country.

He is the leading returning scorer for Jay Wright. The key, as it is always with point guards, is sewing the talent around him together. Mouph Yarou, Dominic Cheek, Isaiah Armwood, James Bell and a solid recruiting class make for a good pallet of players to play with. Can Wayns push this team into the top 25? No reason to think otherwise.

2010-2011 STATS: 13.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 4.5 apg, 2.8 TO, 27.1% 3PT
