Number 30 – James Michael McAdoo, PF, Fr., North Carolina

I know, I know, I know. He’s not going to be playing a lot this year. I know you’ve said something to debate this selection already. I get that.

But let’s not debate the fact that McAdoo is one of the premiere big men in college basketball right now.

When I watched him at the Nike Hoop Summit, he was a very close second to Anthony Davis when it came to the best big men in the building. The NBA guys agreed for the most part with that assessment.

McAdoo is in the perfect situation. No pressure to shine as an instant superstar in year one. No pressure to play a lot. No pressure to perform like a lottery pick. He can play behind Tyler Zeller, one of the best running big men in America. McAdoo can improve quietly all the while providing North Carolina with quality minutes in the rotation.

McAdoo is the most polished big man coming into college basketball. He has an array of moves, toughness, a nice face-up game, a willingness to learn and the kid hates to lose. And I mean hates to lose.

There may be more productive players on the top 100 list this season. I’ll adjust accordingly. Then again, McAdoo may be too good to keep confined in a role (which I think will happen, see Marvin Williams) and he could rise on this list.
