I hate to admit it but Jeff Goodman may be onto something here.

Travis Taylor of Xavier is a real sleeper. Goodman is calling it. I suppose I’m endorsing it. Continue reading

Admit it; you don’t know who Jonathan Holton is.

That’s okay. Few outside of South Florida and the University of Rhode Island do.

The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Miami native goes by Sponge. No really, he does. He’s a late-blooming big man that knows how to find the highlight reel. Continue reading

NHR Top 100: #95 Chris Gaston, PF, Fordham

Number 95 – Chris Gaston, PF, Jr., Fordham

When putting this list together, I was trying to figure out how to weigh those players that are the absolute go-to player for their respective teams. Some teams lean completely on one player thus giving said player an inflated stat line.

Chris Gaston could fall into that category. Fordham is struggling. However, Gaston has provided some relief. As a freshman, he lead all freshman in rebounding nationally. He led Fordham in scoring and rebounding for the second straight year. He’s already in the top 15 in rebounding and top 10 in blocked shots at Fordham. Clearly, he’s an impact. Continue reading

NHR Top 100: #96 Carl Jones, PG, St. Joe’s

Number 96 – Carl Jones, PG, Jr., St. Joe’s

Sometimes when a player commits to a school you just know he’s bound for a great college career. That’s what happened when Jones picked Phil Martelli’s program.

The Ohio native was as 24 point per game scorer in the prep ranks. He was good enough to have the high-majors sniffing around throughout his recruitment and probably could have had similar success at the right school at that level.

But he didn’t go that route. He picked the right level and he’s enjoyed a good college career.

Here’s the deal with Jones: he’s only been apart of 22 combined wins at St. Joe’s. That’s alarming. Sure, the A-10 is as good as it always is. But St. Joe’s is better than that. Jones is better than that. He’ll debut at 96 but if the Hawks can’t string wins together, he’s outta here.
