Jeff Van Gundy is college bound

With the NBA players arguing with the league and the league arguing with NBA players, we have a Jeff Van Gundy pause going on right now.

If you are a fan of quick wit, sometimes brash honesty and downright amazing off-the-cuff  humor, Van Gundy is your guy. He’s great on ESPN’s NBA announcing team.

Somebody get him out of the R.V., he’s coming back to the small screen thanks to a couple of smart people in Bristol. The former Houston and New York head coach will provide color to select games for ESPN. Continue reading

For hardcore hoops fans, we met Ryan Marks for the first time this summer. Chances are you probably said to yourself “I’m going to root for this guy.”

Jeff Goodman leaves Fox to join loaded CBS hoops team

Coaches aren’t the only ones changing jobs these days. In a major move in the college basketball media landscape, CBS announced they have hired’s Jeff Goodman.

How’s that for a #SCOOP?

Goodman spent six years at as the site’s senior college basketball writer. He got his start with covering grassroots basketball and recruiting. When was purchased by Fox Sports, Goodman immediately jumped at the opportunity to work with the nationally recognized website.

Goodman will start with in June. He joins Gary Parrish on the national team along with four national bloggers.

How did Goodman land at CBS? Why did he make the move? What type of role will have play at the network? He explained it all to the National Hoops Report shortly after the announcement of his hiring. Continue reading

Gus Johnson and CBS are parting ways.

Pause. Let that sink in for a moment. The pain? Yeah, it’s real. The hurt? The voice of the NCAA tournament is gone from the greatest sporting event on the planet. No more rise and fire. No more “ooooooooohhhhhhh”. No more “ha HA!” No more glorious moments in March. No more story-telling the way stories should be told.

I feel like someone just stole a part of my life away from me.

New Pac-12 TV deal is way ahead of the curve

The Pac-12 announced its progressive 12-year media partnership with ESPN and Fox Sports on Wednesday in what appears to be a major score for the conference’s basketball programs.

Larry Scott, the new boy-wonder commissioner of the Pac-12, laid out the plan to present the league on a similar (if not grander) platform to that of SEC football.

The deal, Scott says, is “to deliver an unprecedented level of innovative sports programming to large national audiences across the country.” Continue reading
