The United States U19 team is coming home with the fifth place title from the FIBA World Championships.

U19 American lost to Russia but, in reality, they lost long ago

The United States 19 and under men’s basketball team won’t be returning home from Latvia with a gold medal. In fact, they won’t return with any medal at all.

The Russians beat the U.S. team 79-74 on Friday. The best the Americans can do is fifth place.

While the U19 team struggled in game one of the World Championships, the U16 team swept the competition in Cancun last week.

Paced by the overall power of Aaron Gordon, star strength of Jabari Parker and the inside presence of Jahlil Okafor, the younger Americans made quick work of the international field and won the gold medal in undefeated fashion.

The competition didn’t come close to the Americans and the kids from the States didn’t let any team closer than 20 points. Continue reading
