Miami players welcome newest Cane

Miami players like what they know about new coach Jim Larranaga so far.

Jim Larranaga stepped up to the podium at the press conference to address his new role as the University of Miami men’s basketball program, offered some requisite thanks and then got down to business.

“I am very excited to be here. There is no question about that,” Larranaga said with a smile and flair reminiscent of the late Jim Valvano.

The 61-year-old long-time coach of George Mason was a surprise hire for the Hurricanes. Not a bad hire by any stretch of the imagination but one that drew a number of “wow, didn’t see that coming” responses from the basketball world. Continue reading
